From Data Governance to Token Economics: What our AI builds taught us

presented by Macquarie Cloud Services (opens in new tab)

Macquarie Cloud Services is building and operating sovereign AI infrastructure, including the AI platforms and managed infrastructure capabilities that underpin CAUDIT Cloud. Rather than presenting a theoretical AI roadmap, this showcase shares what Macquarie Cloud Services has learned from building AI into their own production operations, and how those lessons can be applied to higher education and research.

Macquarie Cloud Services will share the lessons from building and operating their Tier 0 AI capability, including how they approached data sovereignty, model choice, identity, MCP tooling and token economics. They will explore why private compute makes sense for steady-state workloads, where frontier models still fit, and what changes when AI moves from human-triggered chat to autonomous, always-on agents. The Showcase will finish with practical architectural choices institutions can make today to keep their AI workloads portable, governed and economically sustainable.

Multiple universities and research organisations already use Macquarie Cloud Services and CAUDIT Cloud capabilities. For this showcase, the principal case study is their own production Tier 0 AI deployment, which reduced vendor support tickets by 78%, improved MTTR by 62%, reduced vendor support spend by 3× and doubled Tier 1 productivity, with no reduction in NPS. They will use those lessons to show how the same architecture can be extended into institutional and research AI environments.

Macquarie Cloud Services' value is helping institutions move from AI experimentation to an architecture that can actually operate at scale. That means combining sovereign private compute with frontier models where they add value, carrying user identity and permissions through the AI stack, governing access to tools and data, and designing for predictable long-term consumption. They are also applying these principles to CAUDIT Cloud, with a model that can combine institutional capacity, shared AI/GPU infrastructure and a sovereign anchor without locking researchers into a particular model or compute platform.
