Rethinking virtual labs for your university: A practical framework for choosing what to do next

Microsoft Azure Lab Services will retire in June 2027, leaving universities with an important decision: what should replace it, and how can they make the transition without disrupting teaching, increasing operational pressure or creating unsustainable costs?

In this practical and informative session, NashTech and Apporto will explore the build, buy or blend decision facing higher education technology leaders.

Importantly, this is not a product demonstration or sales presentation. The objective is for attendees to leave with a practical decision framework to evaluate potential Azure Lab Services replacements, which they can also apply to future technology investment decisions across their institution.

Taking a look at:

Understanding the true cost of ownership versus procurement
Build, buy or hybrid: how institutions evaluate their options
Lessons learned following the retirement of Azure Lab Services
Operational considerations, support models and resource requirements
Risk, scalability and long-term sustainability
Determining the point at which building becomes more expensive or complex than buying
Applying the same decision framework to other technology initiatives across the university

The session will also introduce the partnership between NashTech and Apporto, a Microsoft-recommended Azure Lab Services transition provider, and explain how the organisations are already supporting universities through assessment, migration and ongoing delivery.
