Part of ASX-listed Macquarie Technology Group, we operate sovereign, certified data centres across Australia, purpose-built for organisations where security, compliance, and performance are non-negotiable.

Our Approach to Higher Education
We understand the unique pressures facing universities and research institutions: constrained budgets, growing data demands, complex compliance requirements, and the need to modernise aging infrastructure without disrupting critical operations.
Our mission is straightforward: make cloud work better for organisations that can't afford to get it wrong. That means secure, cost-effective infrastructure backed by real people who understand university environments and priorities.

Macquarie Cloud Services will share the lessons from building and operating their Tier 0 AI capability, including how they approached data sovereignty, model choice, identity, MCP tooling and token economics. They will explore why private compute makes sense for steady-state workloads, where frontier models still fit, and what changes when AI moves from human-triggered chat to autonomous, always-on agents. The Showcase will finish with practical architectural choices institutions can make today to keep their AI workloads portable, governed and economically sustainable.
When: 10 September 1pm - 2pm AEST

Macquarie Cloud Services Event 2026 - Sharing the GPU: Can Research and Institutional IT Build AI Capacity Together? (opens in new tab)

MCS at eReseach 2026.png

Macquarie Cloud Services will be at the 2026 eResearch Australasia Conference, hosting a half-day workshop at the MCG on 26 October..

As demand for research compute and institutional AI grows, the workshop will bring researchers, university IT leaders and shared infrastructure operators together to explore how GPU capacity could be used more effectively. The discussion will consider the practical realities of cost recovery, grant acquittal, ethics, governance, sovereignty, security and risk, and examine the trade-offs between institutional, shared and national capacity.

Join Macquarie Cloud Services at eResearch Australasia, hosted by Australasian eResearch Organisations (AeRO) Inc, for a practical discussion about what workable models could look like.

CAUDIT Newsletter Article - Public, open-weight or dedicated? A CIO’s guide to the next phase of university AI  (opens in new tab)

September 2026
Public AI services are the natural starting point for most universities. But as experimentation turns into production, CIOs face new choices around model capability, cost, control, sovereignty, and infrastructure.

Macquarie Cloud Services explores when universities should continue using public AI, when open-weight models start to make sense, and when shared, dedicated or GPU-based capacity may be appropriate for different workloads.

Read more (opens in new tab) to explore a practical framework for choosing the right model and infrastructure for the right workload.
